Welcome to my new series of articles about holistic animal wellness and healing, what it is, its definitions, its tenets, and holistic paradigms and approaches. The underlying purpose is to reclaim and reframe the concept of holistic wellness and holistic healing for both animals and humans.
Our current human medical and veterinary medical systems have lost their way to the corporate profiteers of Big Pharma, Big Agribusiness, Big Pet food and insurance companies.
Health and healing have been available to humans and animals on this planet for as long as humans have lived, for thousands upon thousands of years. Humans have discovered and experimented with ways of helping the body heal as a part of our very survival.
It is time to reclaim our health, our animals' health, and our planet's health from the hands of Big Business.
Exploring different healing paradigms and systems is a step in that direction. A new round of my program on holistic veterinary wellness for prevention is starting up in April. Super-discounted EARLY BIRD pricing is available for another week! Please join me!
So many words and terminology get thrown around these days for the purposes of advertising. One such word is "HOLISTIC," especially in the animal care field, so much so that I have seriously considered never using it again.
Upon further thought, I said NO, as it is too important of a term to allow advertisers to own it. It says a lot between the lines or, rather, letters. And what it describes is very quickly getting forgotten.
I am going to share that information with you over the coming weeks. I am RECLAIMING the term "HOLISTIC" as it is this term that gave me strength and purpose over 30 years ago when I applied to veterinary school and took my first steps across the threshold of the University of Wisconsin School of Veterinary Medicine.
I discovered the American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association (AHVMA) from the inside cover of Dr. Pitcairn's 1st edition of "Natural Healing for Dogs and Cats." I called the office and asked the woman on the phone, "How do I become a holistic veterinarian?" "Well, dear," she responded, "First, you have to go to veterinary school." And I accepted the challenge.
Now what does "HOLISTIC" mean to you? Let's explore!
