The first night of Yule as well as Christmas Eve are both associated with an ancient Anglo-Saxon observation called Mōdraniht, or 'Mother's Night'- which featured the veneration of an often triple aspected Mother figure associated with the Nordic Dísir, usually holding a basket filled with fruits or nuts, to denote fertility.
