My dog and cat food warming up in the sink before feeding.
I know pet owners who are following this are shocked, disappointed, do not know who to believe, and are worried about their animals and what to feed them.
Just to let all my readers know, I have been encouraging and in some cases begging, my clients to stop feeding highly processed foods for decades. I see the evidence every day of the damage these foods are doing to our dogs and cats because I have a large proportion of patients on whole food, species-appropriate diets, i.e. lots of muscle meat, organs, meaty bones, veggies, and they do not have the same problems.
I also have been aware of the animal feed supply chain ever since I visited a slaughterhouse in veterinary school. Scroll back through my posts and you can read all about it.
For me, this is not a new problem. It is a problem that has continued to get worse over the past 3 decades. In my opinion, I suspect that much of the food that was unable to be processed due to Covid ended up in the rendering plants. As it was sitting on barges and in warehouses and silos rotting, it most likely was sprayed down with pesticides to control the insects and rat poison to kill the vermin. So some bags get poison, some do not. But that is only a guess…
NOW, the FDA appears to be taking the situation a little more seriously.
Here is what Kelly Bone, the fearless head moderator of the Facebook group Savingpetsone@atime has to say:
Please share: Pet owners, you are making a difference and our voices are being heard.
We have heard from hundreds of pet parents who have talked to fhe FDA and had visited with the State Department of Agriculture and they said that although initially these organizations were not taking it seriously, that in recent weeks they are taking it very seriously.
Keep the pressure on. Anyone who has not reported their pets sick from their pet food needs to do so by reporting it to the FDA, the State Department of Agriculture and also take our survey.
Susan Thixton, who authored this article expressed gratitude to this Saving Pets One Pet @ A Time group, and particularly to my moderators who have given up their life to help pet parents. It has been a thankless job, we are exhausted, we get hate mail and threats all day. We will not stop until we get a recall.
Praying for all your pets! When we know better, we do better.
Here is the information from the amazing Susan Thixton, who makes the AAFCO and FDA officials quake in their boots. Please follow and support her! She is a true hero for the animals.
