I am a lover of books and beyond my bookshelves that are always overflowing, I have stacks of books around my house. As I am going about my day a book will, on occasion, call out to me.
That happened this morning and I had a few extra moments so I picked it up and allowed it to randomly fall open to a page to find out what the message was for me.
By the way, this is a method of divination called Bibliomancy, and can be done with any book, at any time. Try it out some time!
The book was:
And the page I turned to was:
AWE and WONDER
It opens with a wonderful quote from Rachel Carson:
“If I had influence with the good fairy who is supposed to preside over the christening of children, I should ask that her gift to each child in the world be a sense of wonder so indestructible that it would last throughout life, as an unfailing antidote against the boredom and disenchantments of later years, the sterile preoccupations with things that are artificial, the alienation from the sources of our strength."
Brene Brown goes on to say, "Awe and wonder are often experienced in response to nature, art, music, spiritual experiences, or ideas."
I would add that our animals have a magical way of gifting us with awe and wonder in our lives, all we have to do is be present with them.
Our dogs can make a single blade of grass something miraculous on their walks. A cat can bring joy and playfulness from a scrap of paper on the floor. They bring us back to the simple things in life and the miracle that we are alive at all.
What is one thing that inspired awe or wonder in your dog or cat recently?
Please SHARE in the comments. It would be a pleasure for all to hear.
The Difference Between Awe and Wonder
Some define them as:
Wonder inspires the wish to understand. It fuels our passion for exploration, learning, curiosity, and adventure.
Awe inspires the wish to let shine, to acknowledge, and to unite. When feeling awe we stand back and observe, taking it all in, like staring at a starry sky.
Researchers have also found that awe leads people to cooperate, share resources, and sacrifice for others, in other words, to be more charitable and empathic. To realize we play a part within this great web of life.
And isn't that what our animals do for us every day?
They help us to see the little things in the world around us and have gratitude, joy, and wonderment for them.
They bring magic back into the world and give us the space to return to our imaginative child-like selves if we allow it.
If you want to bring more of this magic our animals are gifting us into your life, consider joining me in my new program, "Be Your Pet's Hero!"
It will open the doors into the world of awe and wonder that your dog or cat lives in, that magical space of secret gardens, talking to the trees, and opening up to all of the healing secrets nature has to give us.

One of the greatest joys of my life is to watch my dog experience the world. The awe and wonder he experiences in new things, and the joy he experiences in the mundane and familiar. He's a teacher in presence and so much more.
We've had our German Shepherd/pit bull mix, Maeve, for just about a year. She's come so far from being unused to walking on a leash and being withdrawn, and learning "sit" and "touch." These things were difficult for her but she's learning. Maeve continues to amaze me every day.
